Outstanding Game
Update: Still love the game and a year after purchase, am still playing all the time. I also play WoT and like this better. WoT, as nice as it is, has some ridiculous and historically inaccurate features (like the 5 round salvo). Just silly. Anyway, for the people saying this game is laggy and unstable, I haven’t experienced any issues whatsoever and think they may just be trying to squeeze too much out of a slower processor / graphics card. Runs flawlessly on my 27in iMac Core 3 with 16GB ram.
Yes - The Crusader is ridiculous and the Matilda isn’t far behind. If the developers read this, I hope they do something to level the playing field. I have both Crusader and Matilda maxed out with upgrades. I absolutely SLAUGHTER medium and heavy tanks with them, and that is just plain bad design. Historically, the Matilda could go head to head with a Panzer III but should be no match for a PzIV, Sherman, or T-34. And as for Pershings, Tigers, and KV1’s etc… Forget about it. The Crusader, and the British cruiser tanks in general, were never a success on the battlefield. They were fast, but very under armored and under gunned and were no match for the anti-tank weapons they faced. Reload times on both tanks are inhuman. The climbing abilities of all the tanks in this game are extremely unrealistic, but make for better gameplay as you can make use of all the terrain.
I’d like to see an M3, Hetzer 38T and Jagdpanzer added.
If you like tanks / WWII, get the game. Well worth every penny. Spend a night playing the campaigns, then go right to the online game against real players. That’s where all the fun happens. The campaign AI tanks won’t give you much challenge.
Original Review:
I bought the game soon after it was released and this has been the first (and only) app store game that I didn’t lose interest in after a week or two. Months later I’m still playing regularly. I have both the desktop and iPad versions. I can’t get the hang of the iPad controls but on the desktop with a 27in screen, mouse and keyboard, it’s killer. If, like me, you wished World of Tanks would port to the Mac, you gotta get this game. I only play live online. The solo campaigns are pretty boring (I hate hate hate the naval and air levels that you’re forced to play) and the AI is not challenging. The live players, on the other hand, are VERY good.
My complaints, and they’re minor, are that some of the tanks like the Crusader, are just unrealistically powerful. The game developers need to crack open their history books and rethink a few of these tanks. That, and with the desert update, the physics got pretty goofy - flying and jumping tanks? Why?
All iin all, the best game I’ve bought for the Mac.
